Manchester United vs Manchester City: Recommended bets
101 Great Goals’ prediction of Manchester United 2-2 Manchester City is available at odds of 15/1.
2-0 Manchester United win. Manchester United won the last derby match between these sides 0-2 back in March at the Etihad. A repeat of this score on Saturday is available at odds of 29/1.
0-0 draw. The last league match between these sides at Old Trafford ended in a scoreless draw in December of last year. Odds of 15/1 are available if you see this match finishing as a bore draw.
0-2 Manchester City win. Manchester City’s last visit to Old Trafford was in the EFL Cup Semi-Finals back in January of this year. You can back them at 10/1 for the same 0-2 scoreline here on Saturday.
Under 2.5 goals. Recent incarnations of the Manchester Derby have been low scoring affairs, with the last 5 all being under 2.5 goal games, averaging 1.4 goals per game. You can back another low scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 2.2/1 for under 2.5 goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo Goalscorer. The battle of the summer in the transfer market was between the Manchester clubs to acquire Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus. After failing to prise Harry Kane from the grip of Daniel Levy and Spurs, City switched their attention to 36-year-old Ronaldo (pictured below).
United, not wanting to see a club legend join the blue half of Manchester, moved swiftly to secure him before a deal with City could be struck. With 9 goals in 11 appearances, including a brace in midweek at Atalanta, he is in red-hot form right now, too. The Portuguese international is the 6.5/1 favourite to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 2.5/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Manchester City.
Manchester United vs Manchester City: What are the betting odds?
The Red Devils are 4.5/1 to improve their 1 win in 6 record in domestic football of late by taking all 3 points from Manchester City on Saturday.
Whereas, the Citizens are the strong 1.66/1 favourites to pick up their first league win at Old Trafford since the 2018/19 season.
Odds of 4/1 are available if you see Manchester United and Manchester City cancelling each other out on Saturday, as they did at Old Trafford last season.

Manchester United vs Manchester City: Match preview
They say the form guide goes out the window for Derby matches. That has certainly been the case in recent Manchester Derbies.
While Manchester City have been the dominant force in English football in recent times, they have struggled against their inner-city rivals and have won only 1 of the last 5 matches between them, in all competitions.
Elite-level sports is about matchups, though. You see this in boxing and mixed martial arts where a certain fighter is a bad opponent for someone who is considered the better fighter. The same is also true in team sports.
Pep Guardiola’s ball-dominant approach is excellent at breaking down low-blocks. Therefore, they can dispatch of most of the bottom half of the league with ease, as teams drop points whilst frustrated against a low-block.
However, in a rock-paper-scissors way, such teams are vulnerable to good counter-attacking sides who, in turn, struggle against a low-block that doesn’t afford them the space they need to counter into.
Since arriving at the club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned United into an effective counter-attacking side. Hard to break down off the ball with youthful legs in attack, exposing sides on the counter. It has worked for them, too, and the Red Devils were a penalty shoot-out away from winning the Europa League in the summer. Their undoing that day; a low-block.
The need to now amass 90+ points to be in the conversation with Liverpool and City at the top end of the table means a move away from their counter-attacking approach is necessary in the league. The problem in doing so is that it exposes the limitations of players who are uncomfortable playing a high line, pressing aggressively high up the pitch, using the ball in small spaces, or in creating space for others with elite movement.
This was the perfect storm we saw at Old Trafford against Liverpool, where all four issues were exposed throughout the game. Ultimately, though, United’s most expensive players such as De Gea, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Martial and a 36-year-old Ronaldo all struggle with this on one or several levels.
United looked much better defensively in a back-three last weekend than in their horrific showing against Liverpool. Will the injuries to central defenders force them back into a back-four? Matic and McTominay have both played there in the past. Given the lack of height in the City attack, Shaw or Wan-Bissaka could also be used as part of a back-three.
They also have a selection decision to make in attack. Rashford’s pace has caused City’s high line problems in the past. However, Ronaldo and Bruno have to start for United, which means when they use a back-three, there is just one available attacking space for Cavani, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, Diallo and Martial to fight over.
The smart money is likely on City to roll United over in a similar way to how Liverpool did just weeks ago. However, if United get their gameplan right and pick City off on the break, they will get something from the game.
Manchester United team news vs Manchester City
Paul Pogba is ruled out following his red card against Liverpool for a two-footed lunge on Naby Keita. As this is the 2nd of his 3-game suspension, Pogba will also be unavailable for the upcoming match against Watford.
Raphael Varane is ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury. The French international was forced off in the first half of the match against Atalanta, raising questions in the media regarding whether he was rushed back from injury by Ole.
Victor Lindelof missed the match against Atalanta with a knock. He has been included in the Sweden squad for the upcoming internationals. The defender faces a late fitness test here to be involved at the weekend.
Edinson Cavani and Fred were replaced by Marcus Rashford and Pogba in midweek. Fred is expected to return here in the absence of Pogba. Greenwood, Rashford or Cavani is likely the only unforced change to be made.
Manchester City team news vs Manchester United
Benjamin Mendy remains suspended pending the outcome of his hearing in court after being charged by police with four counts of rape.
Aymeric Laporte is also unavailable following his sending off against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Ferran Torres will be out for up to three months. The Spaniard suffered a broken metatarsal while on international duty with Spain.
With Liam Delap also ruled out with an ankle injury, City are facing a problem with depth in attack at the moment. Eighteen-year-old Samuel Edozie is expected to be included on the bench as a result.
Kyle Walker was unable to complete the match in midweek against Club Brugge after suffering a knock to his foot. He is rated as touch and go to be available here, and faces a late fitness test. Oleksandr Zinchenko and João Cancelo are available to cover both full-back positions if required.
