The Reds have dominated the head to head in the Premier League era with just one defeat in fifteen Premier League matches against Wolves. Liverpool have won six in a row with Wolverhampton scoring just one goal in total across those six games and none in their last three visits to Anfield. Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Liverpool 3 – 0 Wolves and is available at odds of 7/1.

Match preview

Liverpool welcomes Wolves to Anfield on Sunday for this Premier League match on the final day of the season.

The Reds’ 1-2 win on Tuesday night at Southampton means the Premier League title will be decided on the final day of the season. Liverpool’s task is a simple one; win and hope Aston Villa can do them a favour. With the Villians managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and one of the stars of the early Klopp era Phillipe Coutinho now at Villa, the stories are ready to write themselves should any final day drama happen akin to the famous “Agueroooo” moment in 2012.

However, the odds of 5.5/1 for Liverpool to win the league highlight how unlikely this scenario is. Even more unlikely, is the goal difference being overturned with City needing to lose by at least six clear goals and Liverpool to draw for this to happen. Even in Stephen Hawking’s theory of infinite universes, surely there are none where Manchester City lose 0-6 and Liverpool draw 5-5 here to require a playoff match between the top two to decide the destination for the league title.

The concern for Liverpool fans coming into this will be twofold. Firstly, exactly how much left do the players have in the tank for a final push here in the league. The heavy rotation coupled with a handful of injuries to key players saw them struggle against Spurs, Chelsea and Southampton lately. This suggests tired legs and minds towards the end of the season are limiting their play. Secondly, avoiding any further injuries to key players prior to facing Real Madrid in Paris next weekend. It must be sorely tempting to wrap the likes of Thiago, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson in bubble wrap and trust the depth in the squad to get another result here.

However, perhaps the constant high-intensity games keep the players ready to play at a high level and prevent levels from slipping too far. Therefore, Klopp will likely want all those expected to start next weekend to have some involvement here at least. Although, he will also want to give the likes of Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain some minutes on the pitch as a chance to say their farewells to the Kop with the pair being linked with a move away from the club in the summer.

It would be a mistake to think Wolves are here just to make up the numbers. Although, they have little to play for with an eighth or ninth-place finish on the cards. They will essentially be seen as the best of the non-European qualifying rest this term. Players will be playing for their futures at the club though or to put themselves in the shop window with the transfer market opening for business shortly. Bruno Lage will also not want to start the new season as the club with the longest winless streak hanging over their heads, which would be seven games should they fail to win here.

Divock Origi Goalscorer – Origi (pictured above) scored a dramatic 94th-minute winner when these sides met back in December. Nothing would be more fitting for his Liverpool career than for him to sign off with another magic Origi moment to win the game in his final Anfield appearance. The Belgian international is 5.5/1 to score the game’s final goal on Sunday. Or 2.2/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Wolves.

Liverpool vs Wolves betting tips: Premier League preview, predictions & oddsLiverpool team news

After Liverpool’s FA Cup win last weekend, there were fears the club could be without key duo Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk for the remainder of the season including the Champions League final next weekend. Salah was withdrawn with a suspected groin injury while Virgil van Dijk came off at the start of extra time with a small twinge in his knee. However, the news this week is positive suggesting they should be back for the final in Paris and may even be involved against Wolves should they prove their fitness in time.

However, Fabinho is struggling with a hamstring problem and won’t be involved here. Joe Gomez is also out after being removed at halftime against Southampton on Tuesday night with an ankle injury. Although, initial scans suggest the problem is only a minor one allaying fears the young defender could face another significant spell out with injury.

Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold (pictured above), Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Thiago, Sadio Mané and Luiz Diaz were also rested on Tuesday evening after their involvement in the FA Cup final just a few days prior but are all expected to return to the starting eleven here.

Wolves team news

Club captain Conor Coady (pictured above) only made it to halftime before being replaced with Bruno Lage looking to switch from a back three to a back four to try and rescue a point in the match. Will he return to the tried and trusted back three against Liverpool or will Coady be sacrificed here in a tactical shift?

Romain Saiss, Matija Sarkic and Maximilian Kilman remain ruled out due to knee, shoulder and ankle ligament injuries respectively. Nelson Semedo is also absent here after surgery to his hamstring and will return in August. Daniel Podence is a doubt from the start with a toe injury for this match against Liverpool. He should be fit for a place on the bench though.
