Brentford vs Crystal Palace: Match details

Match: Brentford vs Crystal Palace

Competition: Premier League

Date: February 12, 2022

Kick-off time: 3:00 pm, February 12, 2022 (UK time)

Stadium: Brentford Community Stadium

Betting prediction: Brentford 1 - 1 Crystal Palace

Brentford welcome Crystal Palace to the Brentford Community Stadium in London on Saturday for this Premier League match. It is hard to see where a winner comes from in this match with Brentford losing five on the bounce and Palace winning just once on the road all season, way back in October.

The sides also cancelled each other out when they met back in August and played out a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. Therefore, 101 Great Goals' prediction for this match is Brentford 1 - 1 Crystal Palace and is available at odds of 11/2.

Under 2.5 goals. These sides played out a 0-0 bore draw when they met earlier this season. Crystal Palace have also been involved in four under 2.5 goal games on their last five Premier League away days. A high-scoring game isn’t expected here as reflected in the odds of 1.61/1 for another under 2.5 goals game here.

Ivan Toney Goalscorer. Toney (below) has scored in each of his last three appearances for Brentford. Sadly for the Bees, they were the losing side in all three games with Toney scoring their only goal. Still, he is clearly in good form and finding the net which is why he finds himself as the 2.25/1 favourite to bag a goal at any time during the game on Saturday.

Brentford vs Crystal Palace: What are the betting odds?

The Bees are narrow favourites at 2.6/1 to take all three points from Crystal Palace on Saturday for their first win since 2nd January.

Whereas, the Eagles are 2.9/1 to pick up a first away win in Brentford since 1957 in the old Division Three South.

Odds of 3.1/1 are available if you see Brentford and Crystal Palace cancelling each other out on Saturday once again as they did back in August.

Brentford vs Crystal Palace: Match preview

Momentum is so important in football. Whether talking about a period of results or periods of sustained dominance in a match, it creates an air of inevitability over outcomes.

Brentford have lost seven of their last eight games. While they can point at the underlying metrics against Wolves, or Manchester United, or Brighton and say they deserved something from those matches based on the chances both sides had, each poor result feeds the narrative. The narrative is that they are struggling. They are in a rut. Going into the match in midweek against Manchester City, you felt they were an already beaten side and that seemed to show on the pitch too.

Contrast that with the start of the season, where the momentum of promotion carried into their early results with two wins and two draws in their opening five games. They went into a match against Liverpool full of belief and twice came from behind to get a well-deserved point. There was no such feeling of a possible comeback on Wednesday. Once Riyad Mahrez converted the City penalty before half-time, the question was whether the floodgates would then open in the second half. To Brentford’s credit, they didn’t. However, with just two shots of which one was on target in the second half, a comeback never looked a possibility.

Both these sides may be outside the relegation battle right now but all those below them have games in hand due to COVID postponements. While points on the board are crucial, Leeds, Norwich and Newcastle are all picking up points lately and their building momentum could see them catch and even surpass Brentford or Palace if it continues.

One of these sides needs to show a killer instinct here to break away from the pack into the comfortable mid-table territory. Do either have it in them though?

Brentford team news vs Crystal Palace

Mathias Jorgensen, Tarique Fosu and Julian Jeanvier have been on the long-term injured list for some time and remain unavailable here. Christian Eriksen is yet to be named in a matchday squad since his January transfer to the Bees. It is likely he will need to build up his fitness further after such a long time out of team training and matches.

Vitaly Janelt missed the match against City with an abdominal injury. He is expected to return to central midfield here though with Frank Onyeka being most likely to make way. Ivan Toney also missed the 2-0 defeat in Manchester due to a lower leg injury and faces a fitness test before the game to be involved.

Crystal Palace team news vs Brentford

Patrick Vieira’s treatment room is looking much quieter by comparison. Nathan Ferguson’s season has been largely disrupted by injury, making just one substitute appearance in the league so far. He is ruled out with a thigh problem for Saturday.

Cheikhou Kouyate is the only other doubt having returned a champion of the African Cup of Nations. He may need a period of rest having played so many games in such a short period of time.
