Betting prediction: Arsenal 3 – 0 Newcastle United

Arsenal welcomes Newcastle to the Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday for this Premier League match.

The Gunners have the upper hand in the head-to-head, with 32 wins to Newcastle United’s 10, from their 52 encounters in the Premier League.

Historically, Arsenal have the upper hand in all competitions too, with 82 wins to 67 dating back to when the sides first faced each other back in 1893, when the capital giants were still known as Woolwich Arsenal.

Recently, Newcastle have struggled to find a win in this fixture. Arsenal have won the last 7 matches between the two sides in all competitions. Although, they were still tied after 90 minutes when they met in the FA Cup Third Round at the start of this year.

It is over a decade since the Magpies last travelled down to London and defeated Arsenal. A run of 10 straight defeats as visitors here since that win in 2010.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United: Recommended bets

The Gunners were 3-0 winners in this corresponding fixture last season. 101 Great Goals’ prediction of another Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle result is available at odds of 12/1.

1-1 draw. Newcastle have drawn half their league matches this season, with 1-1 being the most common outcome of their matches. Odds of 9.5/1 are available if you see this match finishing with the same result.

0-1 Newcastle win. Newcastle’s last win at Emirates Stadium was back in 2010. You can back them at 21/1 for the same 0-1 scoreline here on Saturday.

Over 2.5 goals. Newcastle’s last 2 visits here have both produced high scoring games. Unfortunately for them, all 7 goals from those games were scored by Arsenal. You can back another high scoring game here on Saturday with odds of 1.61/1 for over 2.5 goals.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Goalscorer. Aubameyang (above) has a fantastic record against the Magpies, with 6 goals from his 8 appearances against them in all competitions since signing for Arsenal. The only teams he has scored against more in the Premier League are Watford and Burnley. It is, therefore, no surprise that the Gabon international is the 4/1 favourite to score the game’s opener on Saturday. Or 1.72/1 to bag a 5th Premier League goal for this season at any time during the game against Newcastle United.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United: What are the betting odds?

The Gunners are heavy favourites at 1.44/1 to make it 8 wins in a row in all competitions against Newcastle by taking all 3 points on Saturday.

Whereas, the Magpies are 6.5/1 to pick up their first Premier League win of the season away at Emirates Stadium.

Odds of 4.5/1 are available if you foresee a rare draw in London between Arsenal and Newcastle, after only 2 draws here in 26 Premier League matches.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United: Match preview

Last weekend we got to see the Eddie Howe era for the first time at Newcastle, and fans will likely be pleased with what they saw.

It was a match Newcastle looked the better side in throughout and would have won if they could just stop shooting themselves in their own feet. First through Karl Darlow’s error for the opening goal. Then Jamaal Lascelles scored Brentford’s third goal for them with an own goal.

The match was exciting and entertaining, though – words that were rarely used for a long time when describing Newcastle’s games. But the first half was far too open and against a side like Arsenal, Newcastle could be shredded if they are similarly open.

When Fabian Schar and Joseph Willock were replaced by Sean Longstaff and Ryan Fraser, Newcastle moved from a back-3 to a back-4, which we suspected Howe would start the match with in our preview of the Brentford game.

While Brentford had a lead to hold onto which may have caused the change in their approach, Newcastle looked much better after the change. Brentford registered just one shot in the final 20 minutes plus injury time. It was a 0.01xG shot from outside the box after a corner.

In contrast, Newcastle had 4 shots, including Allan Saint-Maximin’s equalising goal. While overall the game was less open and both teams had fewer chances, Newcastle appeared to have an element of control in their performance that we have rarely seen from them this season, or perhaps in Bruce’s time in charge.

Of course, 20 minutes at the end of a match is a tiny sample size to draw any conclusions from, but it will be interesting to see if Newcastle do make a permanent switch to a back-4, and what impact that has on performances and results when they do.

The less said of Arsenal’s match last weekend, the better, for Gunners fans. Thankfully, you don’t face a side like Liverpool every week in the Premier League and that can be treated as a blip in an otherwise great run of form. They need to get back on track with a win here, though, to show it really was just a blip.

Arsenal team news vs Newcastle United

Both sides have relatively empty physio rooms as we near the hectic Christmas period of the Premier League schedule.

Sead Kolasinac is ruled out after being on the receiving end of a horrific tackle while playing for Bosnia in the last round of international matches. While the exact prognosis is yet to be provided, he is expected to be out for months rather than weeks.

Granit Xhaka is also out due to a medial collateral ligament injury picked up in late September, and is expected to return towards the start of 2022.

Martin Ødegaard, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny, Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pépé and Kieran Tierney were all substitutes against Liverpool last weekend. They will be hoping to benefit from any unforced changes Arteta makes to the side that was so disappointing last time out.

Nuno Tavares and Sambi Lokonga were particularly disappointing and could be replaced by Tierney (above) and Maitland-Niles.

Newcastle United team news vs Arsenal

Paul Dummett is the only player ruled out for this match. The 30-year-old left-back has yet to feature this season but is back running and will hopefully be available for selection soon.

Fabian Schar (above) lasted 71 minutes of last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Brentford before being replaced due to a hamstring strain. Federico Fernández could replace him in the starting XI here in a like-for-like change. Or another midfielder could be brought in if Howe is changing to a back-4, as he did when Schar was removed at the weekend.

Martin Dúbravka may get a recall to the starting lineup after Darlow’s performance last weekend.
