Arsenal vs Brighton betting tips: Preview, predictions & odds

Despite their horrendous start pre-Christmas, Arsenal has been one of the top sides in the Premier League post-Boxing Day and are hoping to bank on a strong second-half of the campaign - which included a deep run in the Europa League  - to hopefully net a top seven place on the final day and European football. They welcome Brighton to the Emirates, who despite what the table says, are a much better side and are fully capable of ending the least with points in the bag as they return to the south coast.

Betting prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Brighton

Arsenal still has a lifeline to grab hold of with both hands when they welcome Brighton to the Emirates on the last day of the Premier League. A win – and some friendly results elsewhere – would see the Gunners finish seventh and into the inaugural Europa Conference League.

Arsenal are in hot form coming into matchday 38, winning four in a row and being the second-best side on form in the league not just in their last-six, but since Boxing Day.

Brighton has been better than many of their results this year suggest, but their inability to finish chances could come home to roost against a very good Arsenal backline, despite the come-back-win by the Seagulls against Manchester City after being 2-0 down. Arsenal should be able to do their part on their home patch, but will still be hoping for help if they want any taste of Europe in 2021-22.

Result/Both Teams to Score: Arsenal – No

Arsenal’s overall strong defensive record this season (3rd in the Premier League) puts them in with a decent chance of keeping Brighton off the scoresheet at the Emirates. The Seagulls’ frustration in front of goal all season potentially doubles down on the notion that they may be kept silent on Sunday.

Scorecast: Nicolas Pépé to Score 1st/Arsenal 2-0 Correct Score

On form in front of goal at the minute, Nicolas Pépé has bagged three goals in Arsenal’s last two Premier League fixtures, and many expect the Ivorian international to be in the matchday XI on the back of it. With both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyand and Alexandre Lacazette both being inconsistent in front of goal, and Bukayo Saka’s baren goal contributions, Pépé’s recent form could play a key role once more in an expected Arsenal win at the Emirates.

Arsenal vs Brighton: Match preview

Arsenal has gone through a frustrating on paper as they sit outside of the European places, but there are underlying signs of encouragement as the summer approaches. The Gunners have been the second-best side (13-5-5) in the Premier League behind Manchester City post-Boxing day, and though they were ousted from the Europa League at the hands of former boss Unai Emery and Villarreal in the semi-finals, few expected a deep run in Europe given where the club was at the turn of the year.

There are expected outgoings to take hold during the transfer window as well, with David Luiz and Héctor Bellerín expected to head for the exit row as well as a swath of other names. With or without the Europa Conference League next season, Arsenal is expected to continue in their attempts at reshaping the squad in Mikel Arteta’s imagine, and the improvement in performance since late December is a huge positive that cannot be ignored. The Gunners must get their summer plans completely spot on if they are to refit and put to sea in better shape next season, and if they achieve that, could be in with a real chance at finishing in the top six if not higher.

Graham Potter still the right man for Brighton

“No one’s style of play is better or worse than anyone elses. That’s the beauty of football. I have worked the past 15-years to play the way I thought I wanted to. you have to be humble enough to know styles of play don’t win games.” – Graham Potter

There is no question that Graham Potter has achieved considerable feats in his career, and most turn to his time in Sweden with Östersunds FK – specifically their famous 2-0 win in the Europa League against Turkish giants Galatasaray – as proof positive that he is, in fact, a very gifted manager. But Potter has yet to push Brighton into a position in the Premier League where his talent is matched by what results and the table showcase, and yet still, the Seagulls have still been lauded at points this year in how they operate on the pitch. Headlined by players like Leandro Trossard, Yves Bissouma, and Pascal Groß, Brighton are largely considered to be one consistent forward away from being much further up the table. The hope is that Potter will be at the club long enough to realize the potential that his marriage with the club truly has, with bigger fish beginning to cast their eye on calling for his services. Should the south coast club find themselves with his company next season, with some smart business in the summer, how Potter progressed Östersunds could very much take root more influentially at the Amex.

Arsenal team news vs Brighton

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta heads into the final match of the season with potential European implications with just about a full-strength squad to select from.

David Luiz and Héctor Bellerín are doubts and are not expected to feature in what could prove their final chance to suit up for the Gunners with Luiz out of contract and Bellerín heavily linked with a move away in the summer.

The only questions left are in regard to who Arteta will put his faith in at the Emirates, with Nicolas Pépé, Alexandre Lacazette, and Martin Ødegaard all hoping to make the XI.

Brighton team news vs Arsenal

Brighton and boss Graham Potter have nothing on the line on the final day, though potentially climbing a few places up the table would hardly be argued with.

There are no less than six players unavailable to Potter; Tariq Lamptey, Solly March, Davy Pröpper, Danny Welbeck, Joël Veltman, and Florin Andone are all absent through injury, while Neal Maupay will miss out through suspension.
