Why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang & Alexandre Lacazette are set to miss Arsenal’s clash with Brentford

Brentford vs Arsenal

The Premier League will finally return to our screens later today. The first match of the 2021/22 campaign will see Brentford play host to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The fixture will mark the Bees’ first-ever in the Premier League, after they won the 2021 play-off final.

Brentford are a very attack-minded side, and should bring an exciting brand of football to the top-flight this year.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are looking to secure a top-six finish for the first time in several years.

The Gunners were of course forced to settle for successive 8th placed finishes in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

But after a fairly active summer, and a positive end to last season, fans of the North Londoners were no doubt still in largely high spirits heading into Friday’s game.

Lacazette & Aubameyang to miss out vs Brentford

However, such optimism will be dented by the latest piece of Arsenal team news to have emerged on Friday afternoon.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will miss the Gunners’ opening game of the Premier League season tonight.

The reason for this is that both forwards are said to be ‘unwell’. No further details are provided as to the exact illnesses which have been picked up by the pair, but it will nevertheless come as big blow to Arsenal, who are already without the services of Thomas Partey.
