Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger was left angered by Marcos Alonso during the Blues’ loss to Brentford on Saturday.
Thomas Tuchel’s side faced off with the Bees yesterday afternoon. Given their impressive form of late, Chelsea had little to play for, with their attention instead no doubt focused on the club's upcoming Champions League clash with Real Madrid this week.
Nevertheless, the west Londoners likely did not expect to be on the end of such an embarrassing scoreline this weekend.
Antonio Rudiger opened the game's scoring after 48 minutes, finally netting one of his many, many long-range attempts this season.
However, Brentford equalised just two minutes later, before going on to put another three goals past Chelsea.
Why Rudiger was angry with Alonso
Following the clash, football.london have explained why Rudiger was, at one point, left angry with Marcos Alonso:
‘The centre-back's first involvement was to lose his temper with Marcos Alonso, who twice in the opening minutes was sloppy with his passing.’
This is not the first time that Alonso has been subpar for Chelsea this season and, with Ben Chilwell still sidelined, it is unlikely to be the last.
After another poor showing this weekend, though, it is expected that Thomas Tuchel will instead start Malang Sarr at left-back when Chelsea face Real Madrid this week.
Despite the Frenchman being a centre-back by trade, he has proven himself useful on the left numerous times of late.
