West Ham United, late on Thursday, secured their place in a nine-team club, owing to a historic victory on the continent.
David Moyes’ troops, of course, were back in action a short time ago.
Fresh off a morale-boosting downing of Manchester United at the weekend, the Irons turned their attentions towards matters on the European front, welcoming Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar to the London Stadium for the first-leg of the Conference League semi-final tie between the clubs.
And, when all was said and done, it was the evening’s hosts who ultimately emerged on the right side of the scoreline.
After AZ took the lead in the clash courtesy of Tijjani Reijnders, Said Benrahma’s 2nd-half spot-kick was added to by Michail Antonio, en route to a 2-1 final scoreline.
And, as alluded to above, in the process, West Ham made history.
This comes with the capital outfit having established themselves as the 9th English club to win a semi-final fixture in a European competition since the turn of the 21st century.
The others?
Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, and Fulham.
