'Best ever performance' - West Ham fans single unsung hero out for special praise after historic Lyon win

The West Ham United faithful have flooded to social media on Thursday, to lavish praise on one often underappreciated member of David Moyes' squad.

The Irons were of course back in action a short time ago.

On the back of a concerning 2-0 defeat at the hands of capital rivals Brentford last weekend, Moyes and co. turned their attentions back towards matters on the continent, eyeing a bounce back result in the club's Europa League quarter-final 2nd-leg meeting with Olympique Lyonnais.

And, when all was said and done at the Groupama Stadium, bounce back is precisely what West Ham managed, in some style.

After navigating an early spell of Lyon pressure, the visitors went on to run riot in central France, on their way to a historic 3-0 win.

Central defender Craig Dawson opened the game's scoring late in the first-half, before further strikes on the part of Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen put the travelling Hammers support in dreamland, and ensured the club's advancement to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

'Sensational'

On the back of the final whistle sounding at the Groupama Stadium a short time ago, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of West Ham's fans being quick to single a whole host of the club's stars out for special praise.

The likes of Declan Rice, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio have all seen their names take centre stage in the headlines, owing to a wonderful team display.

As alluded to above, though, it is another often underappreciated member of David Moyes' ranks whom many others have instead been keen to lavish praise upon.

The player in question? Pablo Fornals:
