Sabitzer to leave

RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Marcel Sabitzer looks to be on his way out of the club in the summer after signalling his intent not to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga title challengers.

Sabitzer has been with RB Leipzig since 2015 when he joined the German side from Austria Wein.

He spent time on loan with Austrian heavyweights Red Bull Salzburg, the sister club of Leipzig, and has since gone on to establish himself as not only one of the better players in his club but the league also.

Scoring 38 league goals in 169 appearances for RBL, Sabitzer has earned his right to be considered a coveted asset across Europe now his stock is on the market.

Liverpool and Spurs await

It is unsurprising to see then that Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United are all interested in the signature of the Austrian international.

Known for his goal-scoring ability as an attacking midfielder and his style and competence whilst in possession of the ball, he would add quality to all of the aforementioned clubs but likely suits some more than others.

Manchester United have already spent big on attacking midfielders in the form of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek. The Dutch international has struggled for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because of the prevalence of the Portuguese talent, signing a further attacking midfielder in the form of Sabitzer would not make too much sense.

Since Spurs sold Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan, they have yet to replace the Danish international with a more natural attacking midfielder and have used a plethora of different options such as Lucas Moura, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovanni Lo Celso is the number 10 role.

Sabitzer would certainly fit the role needed in Mourinho’s squad, should he remain in charge.

Finally, Liverpool are an interesting option for Sabitzer but it is tricky to see where he would fit into their team. Jurgen Klopp has typically opted not to use an out-and-out central attacking midfielder and instead choose to play with two number 8s sat ahead of a number 6, typically Fabinho.

Perhaps the signing of Sabitzer would signal a change in system from Klopp and make Liverpool an even more attacking threat.
