As Arsenal step up Martin Odegaard pursuit, Real Madrid drop exit hint

A fresh insight into Martin Odegaard’s potential return to Arsenal has been forthcoming online on Friday.

Gunners stint

Norwegian creator Odegaard of course spent the 2nd-half of last season plying his trade in North London.

After struggling for game-time upon his return to parent club Real Madrid last summer, it was decided that another loan spell away from the Bernabeu would best aid his development.

In turn, Arsenal, crying out for creativity, swooped to secure a 6-month loan deal for the 22-year-old.

Odegaard subsequently went on to enjoy something of a hit-and-miss spell at the Emirates, showcasing his unquestionable talents in starring displays versus the likes of West Ham and Brighton.

Such performances, however, were all too often followed by ineffective, sub-par outings on the part of the Norwegian international.

In turn, it did not come as too much of a surprise when speculation surrounding Arsenal’s interest in making Odegaard’s stay a permanent one began to die down, towards the campaign’s conclusion.

Arsenal return?

The midfielder, as a result, ultimately headed back to Madrid last month, with initial reports having suggested that returning Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti had every intention of making use of Odegaard’s talents over the season ahead.

Recent weeks, however, have seen word mount very much to the contrary.

And, on Friday, a series of noteworthy updates surrounding the situation have come to the fore online.

First, Real Madrid dropped a major hint that Odegaard has not made the kind of pre-season impression required to carve out a spot for himself in the club’s first-team setup, by completely omitting the 22-year-old from the club’s squad to face Alaves in La Liga on Saturday.

Then, just hours later, a host of reliable sources went on to confirm that Arsenal have launched a fresh bid to lure their ex-loan star back to the club.

The board in Madrid, for their part, are understood to be seeking a fee of between 40 and 50 million euro for Odegaard’s signature:

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, has assured that the midfielder would jump at the chance to return to the Emirates over the coming weeks, with Gunners insider Chris Wheatley having also provided an insight into the decision of Mikel Arteta and co. to turn their attentions back towards Odegaard:

Whatever the case may prove to be, a hectic couple of weeks certainly appear to be in store on the red half of North London.
