The player in question is Ajax’s Jurrien Timber, who has been linked with Manchester United for some time.
Timber has spent the last nine years plying his trade in Amsterdam with Ajax.
The 22-year-old joined the Dutch powerhouse’s youth ranks back in 2014, departing fellow Eredivisie side, Feyenoord.
Timber enjoyed several successful years with Ajax’s youth sides, and is a Dutch under-17 champion.
However, despite still only being 22, the stopper has long been establishing himself as something of a key cog in Ajax’s senior setup.
Manchester United were first linked with the stopper last summer after former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag took the reins. But now, Arsenal have seemingly taken the lead in the race for Timber.
But as Mikel Arteta is a fan of the player and he wants to sign the Dutchman before the window closes, the Gunners are now preparing to intensify their efforts to sign the player and submit an improved offer for him.
Ajax value Timber at around £50 million but it seems unlikely that Arsenal will pay that kind of money for him.
