Arsenal handed encouragement to make move for long-term target

One of Arsenal’s long-term targets looks to have opened the door to a move.

The player in question is RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

Arsenal initially tried to sign Szoboszlai in 2021 before his switch to Germany but, of course, failed to do so.

The Gunners’ interest in the Hungary international appears to have continued, though, as it was reported last month that Arsenal had a club scout in attendance to watch over goalscorer Dominik Szoboszlai and Dani Olmo during RB Leipzig’s 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich in May.

Now, the player himself appears to have opened the door to leaving Leipzig for one of Europe’s top clubs.

In an interview with the Hungarian outlet Index, Szoboszlai said:

“If there is interest, I will consider it, not because I don’t have a good time in Leipzig, but because I have always been interested in challenges,” he stated.

“At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge? I’ve never been that type! I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club. However, I don’t want 15 years from now to look back on my career as if I didn’t get the most out of it.”

Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard as their main no.10 and the Norwegian has become one of their most valuable players, and was even handed the captain’s armband this past season.

So, trying to convince Szoboszlai to join the Gunners and likely not start every week may take some doing.
