Liverpool took a 3-1 lead into half-time against Tottenham, putting them on course to win the Premier League despite their Anfield title party briefly veering off script.
The Reds need just a point to secure a record-tying 20th English league title, but they fell behind in the 12th minute through Dominic Solanke’s powerful header.
But Luis Diaz quickly restored parity four minutes later, though his effort was initially ruled out for offside against Dominik Szoboszlai in the build-up.
However, VAR ruled Szoboszlai was onside as he latched onto Mohamed Salah’s pass before squaring for Diaz to level.
Alexis MacAllister then competed the turnaround with a fierce effort from the edge of the area after a lazy Mathys Tel pass that conceded possession.
And Liverpool were given breathing room after more poor defending from the visitors.
Spurs failed to clear a corner from the right, and they were punished as Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 with a neat finish on the turn.
That meant Liverpool went into the interval knowing that, barring a remarkable turnaround, they would be champions.
