Arsenal face competition from FC Barcelona for 14-goal forward

Arsenal are competing for an in-form forward heading into the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have been linked with Marcus Thuram of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Thuram spent much of his early playing career as a left-winger. However, in recent seasons he has been used largely as a striker.

In 2022/23, the Frenchman has scored 11 and assisted three in 22 Bundesliga matches. Thuram has also netted three and assisted one in two DFB-Pokal matches.

And reports on Friday are claiming that Arsenal are being joined by Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the race for the Borussia Monchengladbach striker.

Thuram is out of contract this summer, meaning both Barcelona and Arsenal can sign him to a pre-contract agreement right now.

And as Barcelona are currently experiencing financial difficulties and need to sell before they buy, this could give Arsenal the edge in the race for the 25-year-old.

Arsenal currently have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah on their books as natural centre-forwards.

But with Jesus sidelined, the no.9 role has fallen solely on Nketiah and he has not scored too many goals this campaign, perhaps leading Arsenal to the conclusion that they need more depth up front ahead of next season and Thuram could provide that.

Who has kept the most clean sheets in a single Premier League season?

Which club has Lionel Messi scored the most goals against?
