Who has kept the most clean sheets in a single Premier League season?

There have been some very impressive goalkeepers during the history of the Premier League.

Petr Cech, Edwin van der Sar, Alisson, Ederson, Peter Schmeichel. The list of great Premier League goalkeepers is endless.

But which goalkeeper has kept the most clean sheets in Premier League history?

5 & 4 – Alisson, Pepe Reina x2, Peter Schmeichel, Ederson x2 (20)

A number of goalkeepers were able reach the 20-clean-sheet mark during the history of the Premier League, with two doing so in the same campaign.

Both Ederson of Manchester City and Alisson of Liverpool were able to do so in the 2021/22 campaign, though it was ultimately Manchester City who went on to lift the league title that campaign. Ederson also kept 20 clean sheets in 2018/19 when City piped Liverpool to the biggest prize in English football.

Elsewhere, Pepe Reina achieved the feat in 2005/06 with Liverpool, but lost out on the title to Chelsea. The Spaniard again kept 20 clean sheets in 2008/09, but this time saw Manchester United go on to lift the Premier League.

The final and first player to garner 20 clean sheets in a PL campaign was Peter Schmeichel back in 1994/95 with Manchester United.

3 – Edwin van der Sar (21)

Manchester United won the Premier League in 2008/09 with an impressive 90 points.

The Red Devils conceded just 24 goals that term, with Van der Sar shipping 22 whilst managing 21 shutouts.

2 – Alisson (21)

Alisson was also able to keep 21 clean sheets in the 2018/19 season for Liverpool. However, he conceded one less goal than the Dutchman despite playing five more games.

Liverpool, though, were beaten to the title that year by the aforementioned Manchester City and Ederson.

1 – Petr Cech (24)

The 2004/05 campaign saw several records broken that are unlikely to be ever beaten again.

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea shipped just 15 goals in 38 outings as they charged towards their first-ever Premier League title.

Petr Cech was the man between the sticks for the Blues that season and his record of 24 clean sheets in one campaign is unlikely to be bested.
