Tottenham identify Sporting star Porro as potential Emerson replacement

An insight into the plans of the powers that be at Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur to reinforce the club’s right flank has been forthcoming late on Thursday.

The subject of Spurs’ options - or lack thereof - on the right, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in north London once more across the season to date.

This comes as the Lilywhites faithful continue to be left bemused by the selection choices of Antonio Conte.

Despite having given his backing to the signing of gifted young talent Djed Spence during the summer, Tottenham’s boss, for the most part, has continued to depend on the heavily-maligned Emerson Royal as his first-choice right-wing-back.

Recent weeks in particular, though, have seen the criticism directed at Emerson reach new levels, with the Brazilian having been subjected to heavy abuse during his side’s comeback downing of Leeds United last weekend.

Calls, in turn, have almost inevitably begun to mount for yet another fresh body to be added to Conte’s right-sided defensive ranks.

And, on Thursday, an insight into one such potential arrival in north London has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Portuguese outlet Jornal Noticias, who have confirmed that Spurs have joined the race for Sporting CP standout Pedro Porro.

Porro actually only linked up with Sporting on a permanent basis this past summer, on the back of a thoroughly successful two-year loan from Manchester City.

The 23-year-old is understood to be available for a fee of around €45 million, as per the release clause included in his contract in Lisbon.
