‘The worst thing there is’ Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis slams Greek FA following meeting farce

Marinakis, who also owns Greek side Olympiacos, is continuing his war against referees

Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis has slammed the Greek FA (EPO) following a meeting between the owner and the organisation, claiming that the governing body is ‘the worst thing there is’.

The 55-year-old attended the meeting following a series of controversial moments had occured during the Greek play-offs, which Olympiacos are taking part in.

Also involved were representatives from other play-off sides AEK Athens, PAOK and Volos, as well as EPO president Takis Baltakos, and the referee chief Steve Bennett, who has come under scrutiny before by the Greek Super League.

Earlier this season, Olympiacos B refused to emerge for the second half of a clash with Kallithea following a pair of refereeing decisions that went against them, later claiming that those in charge of the referees, namely Steve Bennett, are corrupt and ‘making a mockery of football’.

And it appears as though that view has not changed, with the meeting clearly not having the desired effect for the Olympiacos owner.

Leaving the scene, he provided journalists with a scathing rebuke of the governing body.

His ire is not solely saved for Greek football either, with Nottingham Forest having previously been preparing a complaint of their own about the Premier League refereeing standards.

Olympiacos kicked off their play-off campaign with a 3-0 win over Volos, having finished third in the league standings come the end of the season despite losing just twice all campaign.

They return to action on Sunday when they face Aris, who finished two places and 19 points behind them.
