Following a long-winded process, AFC Bournemouth finally have new owners.

The club have this afternoon announced that the American businessman Bill Foley’s consortium has purchased the Cherries.

Sky Sports are reporting that the deal for the former owner Maxim Demin to sell the club is worth in excess of £100 million.

Who is Bill Foley and Black Knight FC?

Bill Foley becomes the latest American owner to join English football.

He arrives on the south coast after passing the Premier League’s stringent owners and directors test.

Foley is the managing general partner of Black Knight Football Club who have purchased 100 percent of the club.

The American has since successfully founded, grown, and operated numerous ventures in the technology sector, hospitality, and vineyards.

He is also the current owner of the NHL team Vegas Golden Knights.

In 2017, the Golden Knights became the first major sports franchise to represent Las Vegas.

During their first full season, they managed to be one of the few expansion franchises to experience immediate success by reaching the Stanley Cup Finals.

Foley will now be hoping he can use his experiences with the ice hockey team to take Bounrmeouth up the standings in English football.

Bournemouth new owners promise investment

Bournemouth fans will be hoping this is the start of an exciting new era at the football club.

Over recent years, Bournemouth have come a long way following their first promotion to the top flight of English football back in 2015.

But despite their successes, there are maybe question marks as to whether they have the capacity to consistently stay in and around the top flight.

Now, the club’s supporters will be hoping under their new ownership, the club will try to kick on and consolidate their status as a Premier League club.

In a statement on the club’s website, the Cherries have confirmed Bill Foley’s intention to invest in the club:

“Bill and his partners are committed to providing the investment to sustain and build upon AFC Bournemouth’s recent accomplishments, which includes returning to the Premier League in 2022/23, where the Cherries have spent six of the last eight seasons.

“Bill is committed to increased investment in AFC Bournemouth’s first team as well as the academy and fan experience at Vitality Stadium, on top of immediately beginning construction of a state-of-the-art training centre and increasing financial commitment to the AFC Bournemouth women’s team and girls’ teams.”
