Liverpool vs Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea will go head-to-head on Wednesday the 14th of August for the 2019 European Super Cup.

Liverpool earned their place in the ESC by beating Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final.

Chelsea, meanwhile, beat Arsenal 4-1 in the 2019 Europa League final.

The last English side to lift the European Super Cup was Liverpool in 2005, when they beat CSKA Moscow.

While Liverpool had the better 2018/19 in terms of league finish and winning the CL over Europa League, Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the London club are a strong side:

“If people think Chelsea is not a strong team then I can’t help these people. It is a really strong team, young team and it is fresh. Frank Lampard is a club legend.”

Mane on his fitness

Ahead of the game, Sadio Mane has spoken to the media as part of Liverpool’s pre-match press conference.

Mane missed the 2019 Community Shield as he was still on holiday after being on international duty with Senegal.

As a result, Mane only came off the bench for Liverpool in their opening Premier League game vs Norwich.

However, Mane now thinks that he is ready to start:

“I think I am ready. I haven’t had holidays for seven years of over 20 days, I am here now so let’s do it.”
