Romelu Lukaku’s brief second stint at Chelsea appears to be coming to an end.

It was confirmed on Wednesday morning that Romelu Lukaku has landed in Milan, stating: “I’m really happy to be here”

Lukaku is set to complete a loan move to former side Inter Milan for the 2022/23 campaign. Inter will cover the striker’s full wages and will also pay Chelsea €8m plus add-ons:

Once the deal goes through, it is expected to mark the end of what has been a very poor stint for the Belgian at Chelsea.

Lukaku made the return to Chelsea this past summer, setting the Blues back close to £100m.

But with Chelsea coming off the back of a Champions League triumph, a big-name striker did appear to be the final thing they needed to truly compete at the top of the Premier League once more.

And whilst Lukaku did fit that criteria on paper after a very successful, title-winning campaign with Inter Milan, his 2021/22 was a complete disaster.

All told, Lukaku netted just 15 goals for Chelsea during his second spell at Stamford Bridge; eight in the league, two in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and two in the Club World Cup.

As a result, as Lukaku set Chelsea back £97.5m in transfer fees, that works out at £6.5m per goal.
