Real Madrid closing in on veteran striker as Karim Benzema cover

The Spanish giants have managed to pull off an under-the-radar signing

Real Madrid are closing in on a move for veteran striker Joselu, with the Spaniard potentially set to return to the Santiago Bernabeu to provide cover to former teammate Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos have already agreed a deal to bring teenage sensation Endrick to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2024, when the player turns 18, but require cover in the more short term for the increasingly injured Benzema.

So far, the 35-year-old striker has missed 13 games of the La Liga season, and his influence on the side has reduced as a result, though he has still found the back of the net on 18 occasions in the Spanish top flight.

They have been linked with plenty of forwards, with Harry Kane among those who they are thought to hold an interest in and soon-to-be free agent Roberto Firmino also under consideration.

The man that they have opted for, however, is one of their own former players in Espanyol striker Joselu, according to Spanish outlet Relevo.

‘The Madrid leaders consider that his profile is perfect to fill the void left by Mariano’, they claim, with the Brazilian striker set to leave the club at the end of the season.

He will likely be a footnote, however, with all the focus on the impending addition of Jude Bellingham, who is set to arrive from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth over £100m.
