Rangers vs Midtjylland betting tips: Europa League qualifying match preview & predictions

Rangers vs Midtjylland prediction: Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland

After an absolutely thrilling first leg at MCH Arena, it’s Rangers who have one foot in the play-off round.

It took until just a couple of minutes before half time for the scoring to be opened.

James Tavernier’s pin-point cross picked out Alfredo Morelos who headed home through Jesper Hansen’s legs.

1-0 at the break.

Then, just seven minutes into the second half, Jordan Jones lead the counter-attack, found Joe Aribo who fired in a second.

Less than four minutes later, the hosts failed to clear a corner and Nikola Katić fired in.

3-0 Rangers.

Cue scenes in the away end and in the away dugout.

But, after that, Midtjylland woke up.

They replied almost instantly; Frank Onyeka’s turn and finish getting one back.

Just moments later, it was 2-3; Sory Kaba’s first time effort deflected in.

Game on in Herning.

Rangers weren’t rattled though.

With 20 minutes to go, Scott Arfield pocked home from 12 yards to seal a 4-2 victory.

It was quite a spectacle but, at the end of it, Rangers are in a very strong position to progress.

Will this be another goal-fest at Ibrox?

Rangers vs Midtjylland: Who will win?

Rangers are 6/10 to repeat last week’s victory.

Midtjylland are 15/4 to win in Glasgow but even that may not be enough to see them progress.

A draw, which would send the Gers safely through, is 11/4.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/6.

Both teams to score is also 4/6.

Rangers to win and both teams to score is 21/10.

The Scottish side are 1/200 to qualify; Midtjylland are 20/1 to turn this around and make the next round.

Rangers vs Midtjylland: Match preview

Rangers’ superb start to the season continues.

In this competition, they’ve hammered St Joseph’s 10-0 on aggregate before edging out Progrès Niederkorn 2-0 over the two legs.

Last week’s win in Denmark puts them in a very good position and keeps up their very impressive European record under Gerrard.

So far it’s: played 19, won nine, drawn eight and lost only twice.

If they avoid defeat here, they’ll safely book their place in the play-off round.

Domestically, they’ve also currently got a 100% record.

On the opening day, Connor Goldson headed home a stoppage time winner as the Gers won 2-1 at Rugby Park.

Then, last Sunday, they ran riot against Hibernian at Ibrox.

Jermain Defoe scored the first perfect hat-trick of his entire career in a 6-1 drubbing.

Alfredo Morelos also scored a brace in Rangers’ biggest win over Hibs since December 1995.

If Rangers do get through this tie, they will play either Legia Warsaw or Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round.

Will they keep their European campaign going?

Midtjylland on the brink

As for Midtjylland, their European adventure looks like it’s coming to an abrupt end.

They began in this round after finishing second in the Danish Sueprliga but will need to score at least three to get through.

It looks like their group stage appearance in 2015 will remain their only one, for another year at least.

At the weekend, they won 2-0 away from home against Horsens in their fifth match of the league season.

They still have a 100% record after wins over Esbjerg, Nordsjælland, AGF and Aalborg.

That leaves them joint top with Champions FC København who they play at the end of next month.

In all likelihood, they’ll be able to focus on domestic matters after this.

Midtjylland can’t turn this around can they?

Steven Gerrard has been rotating his squad in recent weeks as games come thick and fast.

However, it is East Fife in the Scottish League Cup on Sunday so, if he wants to rest players, surely then is the time.

37 year old Allan McGregor will continue in goal.

Connor Goldson and Nikola Katić appear to be the first choice centre-back pairing right now.

Jon Flanagan has started the last two games at left-back and is expected to keep his place ahead of Andy Halliday and Borna Barišić.

£3.5 million signing Filip Helander is still awaiting his debut.

In midfield, as always in a tough game, Glenn Kamara will partner Ryan Jack.

Gerrard has a plethora of options going forward though.

Jordan Jones was unplayable in the first leg so should keep his place in the XI.

Fellow new signings Joe Aribo and Sheyi Ojo have been in goalscoring form recently and are both likely to start.

That would mean Scott Arfield and Steven Davis would be left in reserve.

Gerrard also has a huge headache when it comes to who leads the line.

Jermain Defoe scored a hat-trick at the weekend to take his tally to five for the season.

But, Alfredo Morelos has three goals in his last two appearance and already has seven this term.

The Colombian is expected to get the nod but Defoe could have a big impact off the bench if needed.

This side should prove too strong for Midtjylland once again.

As for Kenneth Andersen’s side, he made six changes for the weekend win but will revert to the side that took on Rangers a week ago.

Jesper Hansen will continue in goal.

Former Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko was rested at the weekend but will start on his return to Glasgow.

The entire midfield will change with Tim Sparv, Evander and Frank Onyeka all coming back in.

Up front, Sory Kaba has three goals to his name this season and will need to add to those here.

He’ll start alongside Gustav Wikheim with Júnior Brumado on the bench.

Can this side pull off an amazing comeback?

It seems beyond them.
