If Norwich didn’t know this season was going to be tough, they do now.

The Championship Champions travelled to face European Cup winners Liverpool on the opening Friday night.

They fell behind after just seven minutes through Grant Hanley’s own goal.

By half time, they’d conceded three more goals; the first time a side had lead in four in the first half on the opening day for 13 years.

They improved in the second half though and got a goal back through last season’s top scorer Teemu Pukki.

Overall, they had 12 shots in the game to Liverpool’s 15 but were not clinical enough with the chances they created.

However, it is not games away at the Champions of Europe that are going to define their season.

It’s home games such as this and Daniel Farke will be confident his side can get off the mark.

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle to bounce back?

As for Newcastle, they kicked off their campaign at home to Arsenal last Sunday.

The Magpies had the better of the early chances including Jonjo Shelvey’s half-volley that hit the post.

But, on the hour mark, Paul Dummett’s slack pass was snatched upon and Arsenal scored, what turned out to be, the winning goal.

There were bright signs for Steve Bruce’s team though and Newcastle fans shouldn’t worry just yet.

However, this game, away from home, will show just where this side is and whether their aspirations should be just to stay up or set a little higher than that.

Will Newcastle leave Norfolk with all three points?

Despite defeat on the opening day, Daniel Farke is expected to name the same side that started at Anfield.

That team was Norwich’s youngest starting XI in the Premier League since April 5 1995, with an average age of 25 years and 89 days.

To put that into some context, the Canaries have played 196 Premier League matches since then.

That average is skewed by the fact that goalkeeper Tim Krul is 31.

The Dutchman appears to still be the number one despite the arrival of Ralf Fährmann from Schalke.

However, three of the back four are under the age of 21; Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey.

Nine of this XI made their Premier League debuts at Anfield with the only exceptions being the goalkeeper and the man who scored the own goal; Grant Hanley.

Christoph Zimmermann will start when available but he’s still injured.

In midfield, Tom Trybull and Kenny McLean will continue to sit in front of the defence.

Onel Hernández came off the bench at Liverpool and therefore became the first Cuban to play in the Premier League.

Now, 114 different nationalities have been represented in the league’s history.

He’ll be on the bench once more.

As will Swiss forward Josip Drmić who has played an average of just 584 club minutes per season since 2015.

Up front, Teemu Pukki kept up an amazing stat of his own last Friday night.

He has scored with his first shot on target in each of his last eight league seasons across four different clubs, Schalke, Celtic, Brøndby & Norwich.

That record stretches back to the start of 2012/13.

Can he fire Norwich to their first win in their first home game of the season?

As for Newcastle, Steve Bruce picked a back four before switching to a back three against Arsenal.

It’ll be interesting to see what he does here.

He’s expected to continue with the 4-2-3-1 formation from the start.

As always, Martin Dúbravka will be in goal.

There could be two new signings at full-back.

On the left, Jetro Willems came on last Sunday but is expected to start ahead of Paul Dummett this time.

On the other side Emil Krafth, who joined from Amiens on deadline day, could be in line for his debut.

In midfield, Bruce could have a selection headache.

Both Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff went off injured last week although the latter is expected to be fit.

Newcastle are quite light in that area of the pitch.

Mo Diamé left the club this summer and no one arrived meaning the only other options are Isaac Hayden, who will start, and Ki Sung-yueng.

Further forward, Allan Saint-Maximin was lively off the bench so is likely to come into the side.

He, alongside Miguel Almirón, will be looking to support club record signing Joelinton.

Can those very talented players fire Newcastle to victory at Carrow Road?
