Mikel Arteta bemoans Arsenal finishing in Southampton stalemate

Mikel Arteta has spoken about Arsenal’s poor finishing on Sunday.

Arsenal faced off with Southampton in a game they were expected to win.

However, when all was said and done on the south coast, Arsenal were forced to settle for a share of the points.

The Gunners dominated from the start and took the lead after 11 minutes via Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal then had several more big chances throughout the game, most of which fell to Gabriel Jesus, who missed.

Now, after seeing their lead atop of the Premier League drop to just two points, Mikel Arteta has bemoaned his side’s finishing:

“Yes, especially with the big chances that we created,” he stated when asked if Arsenal should have won the game.

“But credit to Southampton as well, the way the came out the second half, we weren’t as clean and as consistent on the ball as we were in the first half, we started to concede a lot of long throws, set-plays which disrupted our game.

“Despite that, I think we created the two biggest chances again in the second half and it wasn’t enough to win the game, unfortunately.”
