Aston Villa v Manchester City: Confirmed line-ups as league leaders look to maintain perfect start

Manchester City travel to the West Midlands looking to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season against in-form Aston Villa.

City have won each of their opening seven top-flight games and Enzo Maresca’s side will be full of confidence having dispatched AEK in ruthless fashion in the Champions League in midweek.

That record has made City only the third team in Premier League history to have won their first seven games of a season, while Maresca is the only manager ever to win his first seven games in charge of a club in the division.

After an underwhelming start, Villa’s fortunes have picked up in recent weeks, having lost just once in their last nine matches in all competitions.

Unai Emery’s men have recent history on their side in this fixture, too. The hosts have won the last three meetings with City at Villa Park, and they did the double over City last season.

Aston Villa team news

Emery makes four changes from the side that beat Viking 3-1 on Wednesday.

Matty Cash, Ian Maatsen, Boubacar Kamara and Johan Manzambi all come in, replacing Tyrone Mings, Ross Barkley, Ibrahim Mbaye, Emi Buendia.

Aston Villa: Suzuki, Cash, Lindelof, Torres, Maatsen, Kamara, Gomes, Alysson, Manzambi, McGinn, Jackson

Subs: Bizot, Mings, Barkley, Buendia, Mbaye, Bogarde, Goretzka, Madjo, Hemmings

Manchester City team news

Midfielder Phil Foden may be entitled to feel a little aggrieved to not be starting after his Champions League hat-trick in midweek, but the 26-year-old has to make do with a place on the bench.

The two other scorers in that game, Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki both start, however. Jeremy Doku, Iliman Ndiaye and top scorer Erling Haaland all come in, as does Marc Guehi.

Manchester City: Donnarumma, Khusanov, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol, Anderson, Fernandez, Ndiaye, Cherki, Doku, Haaland

Subs: Rulli, Kovacic, Ait-Nouri, Reis, Bouaddi, O’Reilly, Foden, McAidoo, Lewis
