Ruben Amorim feels Manchester United’s quiet transfer window can be attributed to a fear of repeating past “mistakes”.
United made just two signings, snapping up left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for £25million and bringing in England Under-19 international Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
The club have endured a largely miserable season, and sit 13th in the Premier League table following last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. They were expected to do more business, particularly in forward areas, but Amorim says United are taking a more cautious approach.
He said: “What I feel is that the club is taking its time.
“We know the urgency of the moment of the team, everybody here doesn’t want to make the same mistakes of the past. In the summer we will see but like I said we are being really careful with transfers because we did some mistakes in the past.”

Marcus Rashford and Antony left Old Trafford but Amorim is confident he has the weapons in attack to finish the season strongly, despite having to employ midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in a false nine position against Palace.
“We have to find players to play in different positions, you can see the way we play it’s going to take time and not solve all the problems,” said Amorim.
“Amad [Diallo] can score more, Bruno [Fernandes] can score more, Kobbie Mainoo can score more playing in that position on the pitch. We have to improve as a team, we have a little bit of time.”

Amorim not focused on Rashford
Amorim was inevitably asked about Rashford’s departure to Aston Villa after a drawn out saga that had the potential to drag on had the England forward remained in Manchester.
“I am just focused on these games,” Amorim said. “Marcus is in Birmingham now with Unai [Emery], we are just focused on our players.”
United face Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow night with Ruud van Nistelrooy returning to the club he led on an interim basis before Amorim was appointed as the permanent successor to Erik ten Hag.
Martinez and Shaw missing
They go into the tie without defenders Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw.
Martinez sustained an ACL injury against Palace while Shaw will not be rushed back from a succession of problems.
“Licha is a difficult situation,” Amorim said. “He’s going to be out for a while.
“We don’t know the extent of the injury but it’s an injury that is going to take time. Luke, just a little bit, one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we’ll try to be careful with Luke.”
