Manchester United desperately need three points from tonight’s Champions League game with Roma at Old Trafford.
It has been a bleak few weeks for United and boss Michael Carrick, whose side are on a nine-match winless run in all competitions, the club’s worst sequence of results in 42 years.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma arrive in completely different form. They are unbeaten in Serie A this season, winning seven and drawing three, and they hammered Udinese 5-2 on Saturday. Donyell Malen has been the star once again, with eight Serie A goals and three in the Champions League.
History is very much on United’s side, though. Roma have never won at Old Trafford, and they have suffered some heavy defeats there, including a Carrick-inspired 7-1 hammering in 2007 and a 6-2 defeat in the Europa League semi-final first leg in 2021.
