Man City star breaks Mesut Ozil Premier League record in Man City's win over Burnley

Ilkay Gundogan became the new owner of a Premier League record, during Manchester City's meeting with Burnley.

Midfielder Gundogan was afforded his latest start on Saturday afternoon, as Pep Guardiola's troops made the trip to Turf Moor for their first outing on the back of the campaign's final international break.

And the former Borussia Dortmund man, for his part, went on to make a telling impact on proceedings, slotting home from Raheem Sterling's pull back with 25 minutes on the clock to round out a typically classy Sky Blues move.

Not only that, but, in the process, Gundogan also managed to etch his name indellibly into the history books of the Premier League.

As per statisticians Opta, the Citizens star's strike at Turf Moor marked his 34th in the English top-flight, guiding Gundogan one clear of compatriot Mesut Ozil as the top scoring German to ever grace the Premier League:

Gundogan's latest goal of course proved the final nail in the coffin of relegation-battling Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

This came after Kevin De Bruyne put visitors City in front in the clash inside the opening five minutes, latching onto another Raheem Sterling layoff to rifle a typically pinpoint effort into the far top corner:

Guardiola's men, in turn, have climbed back clear of Liverpool to the Premier League's summit, on the back of the Reds' downing of Watford earlier this afternoon.
