With the Man City team
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about his admiration of Phil Foden, and noted that the young star is now ready to be part of the team this season.
He said that last time out, the player was certainly young and still learning, but after that experience, he’s confident in the starlet’s abilities.
Not only that, but Guardiola noted that there are plenty of top quality players in their midfield, and Foden will have his work cut out for him getting in the team.
Big hopes for Phil Foden
He said to Sky Sports: “Phil is part of the team. Last season he was up and down, part of the first team and the second team. He’s trained all year and now he’s a little more mature.
“He’s not a tall guy but now he fights in the duels. He has special quality. I always explain to Phil, if you have to fight the contact you are going to lose 90 per cent.
“Try to avoid it and be quicker in the mind and the feet to find a solution. But I think he has all the skills. If he was nominated as one of the best young players in the world, he is something special and I think he is.
“He’s another guy that will help us, I’m pretty sure of that, but he has to fight with Kevin De Buryne, David Silva and Fernandinho and it’s not that simple for him.”
Premier League Title hopes
City will of course be looking to retain their title, and while they’ve not done a huge amount of business this summer, the likes of Foden being added to the squad and actually in a position where Guardiola knows he will be able to count on him, is huge.
Not only that, but Benjamin Mendy will also be fully fit for the first time since the very start of his Man City career, and that will certainly be like having a new player – to use the tried and tested cliche – but it will certainly be yet another boost for the side who will want to go one better and manage to better their impressive 100 points total.
