Another frustrating evening for Luis Suarez
It has been a difficult season for Luis Suarez.
Barcelona may be top of La Liga, but Suarez’s performances have been far from the standards the Uruguayan set at both Liverpool and his first seasons at the Camp Nou.
Suarez has struggled with injury but continues to fuel ammunition for his critics that suggest he has lost a yard of pace and is not the player he was.
Now 30, Suarez has scored five La Liga goals in 10 appearances this season but may well struggle to hit the numbers of the past two seasons.
Luis Suarez’s incredible rant at linesman during Valencia 1 – Barcelona 1
Suarez was one of a number of Barcelona players left perplexed as the Catalans were denied a perfectly legal goal at Valencia on Sunday night.
In the crucial top of the table La Liga clash, Leo Messi thought he had scored in the first half when Valencia goalkeeper Neto spilled the ball over the line.
Only the referee and linesman thought differently and it seems likely that the ghost goal will see rule changes in La Liga to prevent this Sunday League-type controversy.
As is often the way in La Liga, cameras and microphones picked up many of the reactions to Barcelona’s ghost goal.
Whilst Leo Messi was clearly angry, the Argentine was respectful to the referee and linesman. Luis Suarez was not quite so respectful…
Luis Suarez savages the linesman
Luis Suarez was caught verbally abusing the linesman in quite an extreme manner.
In Spanish, Luis Suarez said: “¡Eres un cagón! ¡Enano de mierda!”
This translates to: “You sh** yourself! You f***ing midget”!”
Whilst this phrase does not seem to be a familiar one in Spanish, kudos to Suarez for pulling out an insult of impressive quality.
And, it is very much the type of rant you expect the angry Uruguayan to go on when things don’t go his way.
There are no suggestions in Spain that Suarez will be banned for how he spoke to the linesman in this manner!
