Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk confirms he is still dealing with issue picked up in September

Liverpool and Netherlands stopper Virgil van Dijk has confirmed he is still dealing with an issue picked up back in September.

Van Dijk dealing with finger problem

The Netherlands are back in World Cup qualifying action on Tuesday evening when they play host to Norway.

The Oranje head into their final World Cup qualifier top of Group G, but with Norway – who are 3rd in the group – only behind them by two points, three points are needed to ensure the Netherlands book their spot in Qatar next year without having to go through to the play-offs.

Ahead of the game, Liverpool and Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk has revealed he is still suffering the effects of an injury to his finger picked up the last time Netherlands and Norway met back in September:

“The healing is very slow. It was very, very painful. I still strap my finger because it hurts when someone touches it. It was an accident. I tried to pull him.”

Liverpool vs Arsenal

Though he has seemingly been dealing with it ok for now, Liverpool are no doubt hopeful Van Dijk does not aggravate his finger anymore on Tuesday, especially as the Reds have a tough test this weekend.

Liverpool are set to play host to Arsenal in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off.

The Merseysiders head into the game looking to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the campaign at the hands of West Ham.

Said defeat knocked Liverpool down to 4th in the Premier League and four points adrift of table-topping, Chelsea.

Arsenal, though, are not expected to prove any sort of pushover this weekend. The Gunners have climbed up to 5th in the PL after a torrid start to the season and are now unbeaten in eight league ties.

Such fine form actually means that Mikel Arteta’s side would climb above Liverpool on Saturday with a win – something Jurgen Klopp and co. are obviously eager to avoid.
