Liverpool & Tottenham stars nominated for UEFA 2018-19 awards

UEFA 2018-19 awards

UEFA will hold it’s annual awards show on August 27th.

The event will be staged in Monaco.

The draw for the group phase of this season’s Champions League will also be held that night.

Liverpool’s nominations for the award show

As Champions League winners, it’s not really a surprise to learn that several LFC stars have been nominated for UEFA prizes.

Virgil van Dijk will compete against Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2018-19 Player of the Year award.

Elsewhere, Alisson Becker, who won last season’s Premier League Golden Glove award (21 clean sheets) is also up to win UEFA’s goalkeeper of the season title.

Liverpool have two players chasing the defender of the year accolade: Trent Alexander-Arnold and van Dijk.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson is nominated in the midfielder of the year bracket.

Sadio Mane, meanwhile, has been named as a finalist in the striker of the year category.

Tottenham’s nominations for the award show

Tottenham were last season’s Champions League runners-up.

As a result, two Spurs players have also been nominated for possible UEFA awards.

French World Cup winner Hugo Lloris was selected in the goalie field against Alisson. Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen is also in the running.

Christian Eriksen is up for the midfielder of the season prize, as is Frenkie de Jong.
