Liverpool prepared to sell £60m star this summer amid Newcastle interest

The Reds could be ready to make a major sale this summer

Liverpool are ready to part ways with 26-year-old attacker Diogo Jota this summer, despite the winger having only signed a new contract 12 months ago, according to a report.

Jota breathed fresh air into Liverpool’s attack upon his arrival at the club from Wolves, and has scored 34 times in his 99 appearances for the Reds, as well as grabbing another 15 assists in what has turned out to be a shrewd move.

However, he has had his fair share of injuries, having missed 50 games during his time with Jurgen Klopp’s side, and his issues forced the Reds back into the transfer market, adding Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo to their ranks over the last two transfer windows.

That, combined with the imminent return of Luis Diaz, has thrown Jota’s future into doubt, with all of those mentioned likely to be ahead of the Portuguese attacker in the pecking order and the left-side of Liverpool’s attack now looking bloated.

As per football transfers, this could see Jota leave, with Newcastle United keeping tabs on the winger as they look to bolster their own ranks. It is reported that Klopp’s side have set a £60m price tag on Jota’s head, but that should that be met he could well find himself leaving Anfield.

It comes amid a time of major upheaval for the Reds. They are expected to spend significant sums this summer, with Jude Bellingham (valued at £132m) their no.1 priority.

While adding the teenager would be a British record transfer, it is thought that Liverpool also want to add another midfielder alongside the Borussia Dortmund man, as well as a centre-back and potentially a full-back in a summer spend that is likely to break their own record in the process.
