England midfielder Georgia Stanway has revealed that members of the Lionesses squad are personally contributing money to help their families attend Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland this summer.
The host nation ranks among the most expensive in the world, with cities like Zurich, Lausanne, and Geneva topping global cost-of-living charts.
Switzerland is second overall in the 2025 Cost of Living Index, only behind the US Virgin Islands.
According to BBC Sport, all 23 players selected by manager Sarina Wiegman will receive financial support from the Football Association to assist their families with the cost of attending the tournament.
While the precise figure remains undisclosed, it is reportedly similar to the allowance provided for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and is consistent with what male England players receive.
Additionally, each squad member is allocated a limited number of match tickets to distribute among family and friends.

Despite the FA’s support, the exceptionally high cost of living in Switzerland means many players are still stepping in to cover further expenses for their loved ones.
“I’m aware that Switzerland is a very expensive country,” Stanway said. “Even just for flights and hotels. The cost of living there is extremely high so we understand the demand on fans.
“That is difficult for us as well because we want to help and support as much as possible, even with our own families.”
Stanway, who joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City in 2022, added: “A lot of us are putting our hands in our pockets to make sure that our families can get over there. We would love to see as many fans as possible and we want to thank them in advance because we know it’s not cheap.”
