Norwich vs Liverpool
2020/21 proved a rather disappointing campaign for Liverpool.
After securing their first-ever Premier League title just a few months prior, the Reds were no doubt eager to mount a respectable title defence.
However, a spate of injuries to some of their biggest stars quickly brought an end to such hopes, with Liverpool having eventually been forced to settle for a 3rd placed finish in the league.
With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and more now primed to return to action, though, Liverpool will be altogether more hopeful of challenging the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United this time around.
Liverpool’s 2021/22 campaign, like their title-winning 2019/20 one, will begin with a clash against newly-promoted Norwich City.
The Reds will face off with Norwich at 5:30 PM UK time on Saturday.
The Canaries would dominate the Championship last time out, but Liverpool, despite the tie being at Carrow Road, should still be viewed as overwhelming favourites ahead of the game.
Klopp praises Gilmour
Despite his side heading in as clear favourites on Saturday evening, Jurgen Klopp has been full of praise for Norwich recently.
Speaking ahead of the game, the German highlighted what a great job Daniel Farke has been doing.
Klopp also praised Norwich’s business in the transfer market, including the signing of Billy Gilmour.
The midfielder has joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea and Klopp is clearly a big fan, suggesting that Gilmour is probably one of the biggest Scottish talents for the last 50 years:
“I know how good they are and how great a job Daniel Farke is doing.
“They gave him, for what is a club like Norwich, incredible trust and a new four year contract which is absolutely great. So they believe in his work and the project and you can see that.
“They lost good players, or one at least that I know about, but they did sensational business.
“Billy Gilmour is probably one of the biggest Scottish talents for the last 50 years. Bringing him in on loan and then (Milot) Rashica signing from the Bundesliga.
“So they lost (Emiliano) Buendia yes but the replacements they found – and now with the little Greek boy (Christos Tzolis) who came in last week – are good business.
“So it’s exciting what they’re doing and we have to be absolutely spot on.”
