Is the writing on the wall for Tammy Abraham at Chelsea following Man City snub?

Is the writing on the wall for Tammy Abraham at Chelsea following Man City snub?

Tammy Abraham left out vs Man City

Chelsea are of course set to face off with Manchester City on Saturday evening in an FA Cup semi-final tie.

The winner of said outing will then take on one of Leicester City or Southampton in the competition’s showpiece next month.

Ahead of the tie, some rather interesting team news has emerged online.

As per The Athletic, Tammy Abraham has been left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad to take on the Citizens.

Abraham’s absence is not injury-related though, with sources have confirmed that he is fully fit and trained at Cobham this week.

Is Abraham’s time at Chelsea up?

This is not the first time Thomas Tuchel has opted to leave out the striker since he took over at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham was left on the bench in both of the Londoners’ Champions League quarter-final clashes with FC Porto.

The 23-year-old has also not featured in the Premier League since he was hooked at half-time vs Southampton back in February.

Granted he has had some injury issues since, but even when fit, it is quite clear Tuchel isn’t too keen on the forward – despite him still being Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions this season.

All of Kai Havertz, Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner look to be ahead of Abraham in Chelsea’s attacking pecking order.

And with it claimed last month that the Blues will be in the market for a new centre-forward in the summer, does Abraham even have a future at Chelsea?

He has already lost his spot in the England squad due to a lack of minutes and if another forward is brought in over the coming months, it is really hard to see Abraham being handed any sort of regular action.

West Ham have been linked with a move for Abraham of late. And with David Moyes’ side looking set to secure some form of European football next term, perhaps Abraham should consider a new adventure where he will be a more prominent figure.

Moreover, the decision on Tuchel’s part to marginalise Abraham, on the surface at least, does seem rather strange.

As already mentioned, Abraham remains their top scorer this term, and with Chelsea still struggling for goals, why isn’t the striker afforded more chances to shine?  It is made even stranger when you consider how poor Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been in front of goal this season, yet they are still handed many more chances to prove themselves.

Chelsea are no stranger to letting top talents leave and then impress elsewhere – Romelu Lukaku, Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne the obvious examples.

And though Abraham may not prove to be quite at that level, letting a young, English striker who has proven more clinical than your remaining forwards leave could well come back to bite the Blues.
