How a pair of Arsenal teammates set a new club record vs Newcastle

A head-turning statistic, centering on two key members of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad, has come to the fore late on Sunday.

The Gunners, of course, are currently locked in action.

After seeing Manchester City rattle off yet another victory at the expense of Leeds United 24 hours ago, Arteta and co. made the trip to St. James’ Park, for a daunting Premier League showdown with high-flying Newcastle United.

And, as things stand late in proceedings on Tyneside, Arsenal look well on their way to what would mark a hugely impressive three points.

This comes after Martin Odegaard’s early opener was added to by way of a Fabian Schar own goal, to guide the evening’s visitors into a two-goal lead.

And, as alluded to above, in the process, two members of the Gunners’ squad clinched history.

Teammate and attacking partner in crime Gabriel Martinelli, meanwhile, too recently hit the 15-goal mark, in a home meeting with relegation-battling Southampton.

Remarkably, this, in turn, marks the first occasion on which two Arsenal stars have reached such a goalscoring mark in the same season in the Premier League era.
