Gabriel Batistuta reveals how Leo Messi ‘screwed’ him up (Video)

Gabriel Batistuta v Leo Messi

Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta has confessed on Argentine TV that Leo Messi affected him badly.

Batistuta was being quizzed about what it was like when Messi overtook him to become the all-time leading scorer in Argentine international history.

Fiorentina legend Batistuta scored 54 times in 77 internationals for La Albiceleste. But Messi jumped above the South American hero when he scored against America in June 2016.

Leo Messi: It ‘screwed me up’

Asked on TV about how Messi breaking his record affected him, Gabriel Batistuta admitted the following:

It screwed me up a bit, yes, a lot, not a little.

It’s a title that I had, which is not a small thing. You’re going around the world and you’re the top scorer of the Argentine national team.

Messi is going to have twice as many as I got. The advantage I have is that I came before the alien.

Batistuta is well clear of Hernan Crespo (35 goals), who is third ahead of Diego Maradona (34) and current internationals Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain.
