Liverpool head into the game sat 7th in the Premier League, just one point adrift of the Europa League places with a game in hand on both Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Tottenham, meanwhile, were 5th but only two points above 8th place having played two more games.
As a result, it was a must-win tie for both outfits.
At the time of writing, Liverpool are leading.
Liverpool opened the scoring after just three minutes vs Spurs. Trent Alexander-Anrold whipped in a cross, which Curtis Jones slotted past Fraser Forster.
Tottenham’s nightmare run continued as Luis Diaz – starting for the first time since October – made it 2-0 after five minutes.
After the Lilywhites were smashed away from home vs Newcastle last weekend, Tottenham decided to refund their traveling fans.
And with two goals already in after five minutes, another refund job could be on the cards for the Spurs board.
Spurs will have spent more money on ticket refunds than decent defenders by the end of the weekend
