The Friedkin Group have entered into a period of exclusivity with Everton with a view to buying the club from current owner Farhad Moshiri.

The Texas-based Friedkin Group, who also own Serie A side Roma, moved in when a potential buy-out from 777 Partners broke down last month.

Chairman and CEO Dan Friedkin, whose personal worth is estimated at £6billion, will now undergo a period of due diligence that Everton fans hope will culminate with him purchasing Moshiri’s 94 per cent holding in the club.

Any deal would be subject to Premier League approval.

An Everton statement read: “Everton Football Club would like to provide fans and stakeholders with an update regarding new investment into the Club.

“Blue Heaven Holdings has received significant interest from several highly respected parties interested in investing in the Club.

“The Club can confirm today (21 June) that a period of exclusivity has been granted to The Friedkin Group to progress discussions to acquire a majority shareholding in Everton.

“All parties will now work together to conclude this process. In the meantime, the Club will continue to operate as normal.”

New owners would end a period of uncertainty at Goodison that included the club twice being punished last season for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Everton are due to move into their new stadium at Bramley Dock at the end of next season.
