Euro 2024: Shaw, Saka and Stones train for England after landing in Germany

Luke Shaw, John Stones and Bukayo Saka all trained for England after injury concerns ahead of Euro 2024.

John Stones

Luke Shaw, Bukayo Saka and John Stones were all out on the pitch in England’s first training session since arriving in Germany for Euro 2024.

Shaw was selected by Gareth Southgate despite being a major injury doubt but was seen doing ball work, with hope the Manchester United left-back will be fit to start England’s second group game against Denmark.

Stones was withdrawn during the Three Lions’ 1-0 defeat to Iceland on Friday, while Saka was only fit to play the last 25 minutes.

But the duo were also spotted as Southgate had his full 26-player compliment involved in Jena, as well as training goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Touchdown in Germany

The Three Lions’ campaign kicks off in just five days’ time against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, before they face the Danes and Slovenia in Group C.

Southgate had already been unable to select Harry Maguire in his squad duo to injury, so the sight of Stones featuring with a group will be a major boost.

They finished Friday’s final warm-up game at Wembley with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ezri Konsa, Joe Gomez and Marc Guehi in defence, a back four combination who have not previously played together.

Shaw is the only natural left-back in England’s squad and will hope to make an impact as the tournament goes on despite not playing competitively since February.

The likely fitness of Saka is also a positive, with the Arsenal star a shoo-in to start their opening game if available.
