Cristiano Ronaldo has been snubbed by the official Saudi League team of the season, with the Portuguese star overlooked in favour of fellow former Manchester United player Odeon Ighalo.

The 38-year-old arrived in the middle east in January after being let go by Manchester United in November, after an interview with Piers Morgan made his position with the Red Devils untenable at Old Trafford.

Joining Al-Nassr, he has since scored 14 times and grabbed two assists in 16 outings but could not prevent his side from slipping out of the title race as Al-Ittihad snapped up the trophy, finishing five points clear of Ronaldo’s side.

Despite his goalscoring impact, however, he has been overlooked for the official team of the season, with Al-Hilal striker Odeon Ighalo taking the striker spot in the side.

The Nigerian attacker, who has since been released by his club, scored an impressive 19 times in 27 outings to fire his side to third place in standings.

Formerly of Watford, Ighalo also had a short stint at Manchester United, enjoying a six month loan at Old Trafford during which time he found the back of the net on five occasions in 23 outings.

Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have both completed moves to Al-Ittihad, while there are offers thought to be on the table for Sergio Ramos, Riyad Mahrez and several other high profile names.

However, they were dealt a blow as Lionel Messi turned them down in favour of a MLS switch, joining Inter Miami as a free agent.
