Brendan Rodgers provides update on Maddison’s fitness following early withdrawal vs Wolves

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on James Maddison’s wellbeing, on the back of the midfielder’s early exit from proceedings versus Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Vardy makes the difference

Rodgers’ men were back in action a short time ago.

The Foxes got their 2021/22 Premier League campaign underway, in a meeting with Wolves at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester headed into proceedings no doubt brimming with confidence, after getting the better of champions Manchester City to clinch Community Shield glory last weekend.

And, when all was said and done on Saturday, the club’s positive opening to the season only continued.

A hard-fought 90 minutes eventually saw a solitary goal on the part of Jamie Vardy prove the difference come the full-time whistle in the East Midlands.

After getting on the end of Ricardo Pereira’s delivery from the right, Leicester’s main man directed a stunning effort into the roof of the visitors’ net, securing all three points in the process:

As outlined above, however, on an otherwise encouraging afternoon for the Foxes on Saturday, Rodgers and co. were also dealt something of a blow on the personnel front.

This came just beyond the hour mark, when, hours after it was confirmed that Ryan Bertrand had tested positive for Covid-19, James Maddison was forced out of the action versus Wolves with a fitness issue.

Brendan Rodgers, in turn, was inevitably asked for an update on the wellbeing of his midfield conductor following the full-time whistle at the King Power.

And the Northern Irishman went on to confirm that Maddison was feeling ‘a little bit sore’, with medical tests set to assess any potential damage over the coming 48 hours.
