Bayern Munich chief confirms intention to return for Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the Germain giants fully intend to reignite their pursuit of Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi in the summer.

Chelsea prodigy

The story surrounding the future of gifted starlet Hudson-Odoi was one of the talking points of the January transfer window.

Having reportedly become frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities at Chelsea to this point in his career, the teenage winger was heavily-linked with a potential January move away from Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi’s current deal with the Blues is due to expire in the summer of 2020, with Chelsea desperate to secure the long-term future of the club’s most high-profile youth product.

Bayern interest

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, though, have other ideas.

As confirmed by Sky Sports, the Bavarians lodged as many as 4 bids for Hudson-Odoi over the course of January, having been determined to secure a winter deal for the club’s no.1 transfer target.

When all was said and done, however, Chelsea stood firm in their stance that the club’s prized possession was not for sale.

In fact, Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri went as far as to label Hudson-Odoi ‘the future’ of Chelsea during a press conference earlier this week:

‘He is one of the best 18-year-olds in Europe, so it (the situation) is very difficult. The club told me he is out of the market for sure. He is maybe out of the market in July.’

‘I think he will be the future of our club. I think he will be the future of English football.’

‘Convinced of that player’

However, Chelsea’s firm stance has seemingly done little to deter Bayern in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi’s signature.

As confirmed by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of the Bundesliga champions, Bayern have every intention of renewing their efforts to lure the gifted teen to the Allianz Arena come the end of the season.

Speaking to Goal and Spox earlier today, Rummenigge explained:

‘I guess Hasan [Salihamidzic] is a bit like Uli [Hoeneß]. We also had transfers in the past that didn’t work at the first attempt, but at the second. And that’s what we will work on now.’

‘To lay down a marker costs money. We want the best quality players here at Bayern and Hasan is absolutely convinced of that player.’
