Barcelona sensation Pedri has beaten out the competition to clinch the latest Kopa Trophy, it has been confirmed.

Messi the frontrunner

The Ballon d’Or proceedings are of course now in full swing.

In the first edition of France Football’s famed ceremony since 2019, the best players from around the globe have come together in Paris, to await the announcement of the recipient of the latest ‘Golden Ball’.

It is of course Lionel Messi who is viewed as the heavy favourite to emerge triumphant as things stand, owing to a long-awaited Copa America triumph with Argentina during the summer.

This year’s winner? Barcelona sensation Pedri.

The 19-year-old, recognised not only for a stellar debut campaign at the Camp Nou, but also his efforts with Spain at the European Championships, has followed in the footsteps of previous victors Kylian Mbappe and Matthijs De Ligt:

Elsewhere in the Kopa’s final standings, Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham came home in 2nd, with another Bundesliga-based talent – Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala – rounding out the podium.

In terms of Premier League representation, Manchester United and Arsenal pair Mason Greenwood and Bukayo Saka were separated by just a solitary place, with the former pipping his English international teammate to 5th:
