Rodri arrives in Barcelona to complete ‘dream’ move

Rodri labelled his impending move to Barcelona as a “dream” as he arrived in the city to complete the transfer from Manchester City.

The Spain captain is set to make the switch to Camp Nou after City accepted a third bid that could rise to £65.3million.

Rodri had previously been linked with a switch to Real Madrid before having a change of heart and opting to join their arch-rivals.

And, after landing back in Barcelona, the midfielder expressed his delight at electing to sign for the reigning LaLiga champions.

“I am happy to arrive, they have been busy days,” Rodri told reporters “Happy to be here. Playing for Barcelona is a dream.”

While Barcelona have been the dominant force in LaLiga under Hansi Flick, they have not tasted glory in the Champions League since completing the treble under Luis Enrique in 2015.

Rodri scored the winning goal as City beat Inter Milan in the 2023 final, and the World Cup Golden Ball winner underlined his ambition to end Barca’s long wait to win European club football’s most illustrious prize.

“I am looking forward to working with my teammates and giving my best to win it all,” he added.

“We will aim to win the Champions League and everything available to us.”
