Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been speaking about the club’s financial woes ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona would have a fairly active winter transfer window that saw three players brought in.
However, apart from Ferran Torres, the Catalonian outfit did not cough up any sort of transfer fee as Adama Traore is currently only on loan with an option to buy, whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined on a free after having his Arsenal contract torn up.
Now, as we edge towards the summer window, Barcelona president Joan Laporta as sent a concerning financial message:
"Next season will be difficult because of the disastrous economic situation we inherited,” Laporta said.
“We are working to make the situation better, but it’ll take time. We are actively working and we will soon have new sponsorships that will bring in significant income."
Laporta on Barcelona’s win over Real Madrid
Should Barca’s financial woes impact their ability to sign players in the summer, they will have to rely on their current squad plus some academy stars for the forthcoming campaign.
Given how well their current side is playing at present, though, that may not be a terrible thing.
Xavi Hernandez was able to guide his team to a historic win over Real Madrid in their last clash and Laporta has had this to say about the result recently: "Florentino Perez looked surprised at the result in El Clasico.
“He did not expect it. They faced a winning mentality and tactically superior Barça led by Xavi. And the team was very prepared physically. But he was exemplary, as always. We know these things happen."
