Barcelona handed last-minute fitness boost ahead of El Clasico

The Blaugrana’s defensive options have been reinforced at the last

A key member of Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona ranks has managed a return to fitness in time to take his place amongst the travelling squad for the club’s upcoming showdown with Real Madrid.

The last edition of El Clasico, of course, is primed to play out on Sunday afternoon.

After stuttering to what could prove a hugely costly pair of points dropped at the hands of Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek, Barca, in turn, are primed to turn their attentions firmly back towards matters on the domestic front.

Whilst showdowns between Spanish football’s two biggest clubs are always viewed as being of the utmost importance, the latest looks the most potentially significant in some time.

This comes with Real and Barcelona locked on 22 points at the summit of the La Liga table.

In turn, it goes without saying that Xavi will be hopeful of having as many of his star performers as possible fit and ready to feature from the off at the Bernabeu.

And, as alluded to above, late on Saturday, one such member of the Catalans’ ranks has handed all associated with the club a boost.

The player in question? Jules Kounde.

Summer arrival Kounde, of course, has spent the best part of the last month on the sidelines, owing to a thigh injury picked up whilst on international duty with France,

As confirmed by Barca themselves late this evening, though, the gifted stopper is now ready to make his Clasico bow, after being included in Xavi’s matchday squad bound for Spain’s capital:
