Arsenal fans react to Emi Martinez’s MOTM display vs Brighton
Arsenal’s supporters have flooded to social media this evening, to react to Emi Martinez’s latest stunning display for Aston Villa.
Brilliant Brighton
Dean Smith’s men were back in action a short time ago, in a Premier League meeting with Brighton.
The Villans made the trip to the Amex with their tails up, on the back of a hard-fought downing of Arsenal last time out.
Brighton, though, have looked much improved of late themselves, having pushed away from the relegation zone courtesy of victories over the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool.
And, on Saturday night, it was the Seagulls who went on to utterly dominate the action at the Amex.
Graham Potter’s men pinned Villa in their own half throughout the majority of the 90 minutes, racking up almost 60% of the possession, along with a hefty 26 shots:

Gunners react
When all was said and done on the south coast, however, one player proved the difference between a drubbing for Aston Villa, and the Claret and Blue eventually emerging with a share of the spoils.
The individual in question? Emi Martinez.
The Argentine shot-stopper was in inspired form throughout the action this evening, racking up no less than 9 saves, in a Man of the Match showing:

In turn, Villa’s no.1 has since taken centre stage online, as viewers of the Amex clash continue to lavish praise on both Martinez himself, and the Villans’ decision to pursue his signature during the summer.
One set of fans who have proven particularly vocal, meanwhile, have unsurprisingly come in the form of the Arsenal faithful.
This comes with the Gunners having sold Martinez to Villa, in favour of continuing with Bernd Leno as the club’s no.1.
The Arsenal supporter reaction, though, in truth, has proven an altogether mixed bag this evening, with some bemoaning their former backup’s exit, others cursing the club’s luck, and a select group simply happy to see Martinez shining at the top level:
Is anyone else getting the feeling that we were robbed re: Emiliano Martinez? I am happy with Bernd Leno but I am thinking of the €80m Chelsea paid for Kepa, who is vastly inferior to Emi.

If we don’t start winning games soon, selling Martinez and keeping Leno will start to look like a bad decision.

Sold the wrong keeper didn’t we? Anyone else think so.
— GeoffArsenal (@GeoffArsenal) February 13, 2021
Leno is good but I think I have to put my bias aside and admit Martinez has been the best keeper in the league this season. Should’ve kept him 😔

We sold the wrong goalkeeper. Bernd Leno is very good, but Emi Martinez is a freak of nature.
— GoonerTalk (@GoonerTaIk) February 13, 2021
Leno averages 2.4 saves per game. Martinez made 9 saves tonight alone, and a few of them were saves he had no right to make.
You’d have to be delusional to think Leno does the same thing. The stats don’t lie. https://t.co/gYW8IQblMy

Martinez being the best keeper itl the season after we sell him for just £20m is the most Arsenal thing ever

Turning on Leno at any opportunity, he’s class just accept that both are top tier

It’s so nice seeing Emi Martinez put in MOTM performance after MOTM performance for Villa and watching Arsenal fans just shower him in praise. Very refreshing to see supporters continue to praise a former player after they’ve departed the club.

Really really bored of the Martinez Leno debates. Both top class keepers. Leno been doing it for a much longer period. Lenos made 1 mistake all season, everyone’s on his case about it, Martinez makes 2 in 1 game against West ham, not a word. I’m very happy with Leno thanks 👍

Quick reminder that being happy Emi Martinez is showing his talent at Villa and being comfortable with the decision to keep Bernd Leno as our number 1 are not mutually exclusive emotions.
